I can’t imagine why Ted Cruz believes he has any shot, any shot at all, of being elected president. I’m now turning my energy toward trying to figure out what he’s really up to.

Assuming it’s not purely for “get more famous” purposes (which does seem pretty likely, he’s probably thrilled there was a pastiche of him on Castle last night), he may be angling for the VP slot on the ticket, as the guy most likely to pick up a vital few percentage points among people who are too extreme to vote for whoever gets the GOP nom.
Ah– hadn’t thought this through: Cruz as kingmaker, presuming he owns the Tea Party wing, which the GOP can’t win without. I personally doubt the GOP can win presuming Hillary, this ridiculous email thing notwithstanding. W/o Hillary: the DNC bench is practically nonexistent and odds go way up for the Repubs, espec. w/Jeb or someone Jeb-like w/out that last name.
I don’t think it’s anything more complicated than money and self-aggrandizement; this is the guy who faked a filibuster just to get people talking about him. There’s a contingent of the GOP base who will send him some sizable donations. Especially if he wins the Iowa Caucus — which, considering the last two guys to do that were Huckabee and Santorum, he’s got a shot at.
