Deathstroke vs. Batman “postgame” discussion

Came back from class to see a bunch of posts on the Neal Adams v. Priest post about Deathstroke #35, so I’m just gonna open up a thread for that.  Keep in mind, Priest is still busy as far as I know, and as of posting this (noon my time on September 5) I’m still several hours away from picking up my comics, so I can’t even speculate about the issue yet.

I hope you will keep working on Deathstroke for as long as you wants.
Priest just did Damian a huge favor with the ending.
    Thank you.
Give this guy a Batman book DC.

I wouldn’t mind if Priest and Gleason teamed up for Batmanand Robin v3 next year.

I was pleasantly surprised by this run!
I like reading about Damian and Bruce’s father and son relationship.

Good ending to the arc, we all knew how it was going to end. I hope this series can make it to 50 issues, that would be a very solid run. I hope DC gives Priest another book after his series is over but I confess I’m not sure what would be a good fit for him. All the major JL’s are covered, even thought I’d like to see Priest write Bats and Supes eventually. Has anyone asked what he’d like to do, besides Batman which I know he’s wanted to write.

Can Priest explain what is the relationship between Talia and Slade? Slade says that they can not stand each other but Talia has manipulated all this so Slade will join her and create a son like she did with Batman. So, why did she have Damian in first place with Bruce? Thanks.

Okay, I’ve gotten and read my copy. Ultimately, it may not even be up to Priest, it’s up to the Bat-Editorial Office whether they want to follow up on this idea.

But if they do, my guess is that Talia was hedging her bets. Test Bruce’s commitment to their son, sure, but also plant the idea in Slade’s mind of maybe giving her a backup heir should Damian turn out to be a disappointment (or get himself killed, which I suppose would also be a disappointment). Regardless of the depth or authenticity of Talia’s feelings for Bruce, she’s a very practical woman, and even if Slade’s superhumanity is not inheritable he’s definitely a worthy specimen.

      • Chris says:

My theory is that Talia wants to replace Bruce and Damian with Slade and his possible son. She knows that Batman and Damian are not going to join her, which means that Talia’s plan can not be completed and that is why she manipulated all this. I do not know if she loves Slade or if he’s just a pawn in her “game”. I would like Priest to tell us the difference between the relationship of talia and batman and the relationship of talia and deathstroke.

I hope someday Priest will have enough time and energy to post more about his creative process. Deathstroke #47 was AMAZING today – so many moral themes going on, really brutal action as we’ve come to expect, and the character stuff continues to blow me away.
